1. INTRODUCTION
The ongoing humanitarian and violent crisis in Mali, characterized by forced displacement, has emerged as a complex and multifaceted challenge. The confluence of factors, including armed conflict, insecurity, environmental stressors, and socio-economic vulnerabilities, has led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of individuals within Mali’s borders and across international boundaries. In response to this crisis, the international community has recognized the imperative of adopting a holistic approach known as the triple nexus. This framework seeks to harmonize humanitarian, development, and peace responses to address the immediate and long-term needs of displaced populations while simultaneously tackling the root causes of displacement.
2. OBJECTIVES
This research is driven by a set of primary objectives, each contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the triple nexus in the context of Mali’s forced displacement crisis. These objectives include an analysis of the triple nexus, an in-depth understanding of the factors behind forced displacement in Mali, including armed conflict, insecurity, climate change and socio-economic vulnerabilities. It also aims to determine whether this integrated strategy has been effective in meeting immediate needs while contributing to sustainable peace and development.
3. METHODOLOGY
The research design employs a case study approach, enabling a focused examination of specific instances of forced displacement within Mali. The methodology is enriched by a blend of qualitative and quantitative data collection methods, including in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, documentary analysis of relevant reports and policies, and surveys administered to a diverse range of respondents. A purposive sampling process was followed to guarantee a diversity of insights and experiences from the different actors involved in the humanitarian, development and peace efforts in Mali.
4. DISCUSSION AND RESULTS
The findings of the quantitative and qualitative data analysis provide a compelling insight into the effectiveness and challenges of the triple nexus as part of the response to assist refugees in Mali. Although there are improvements in access to essential services, few people are aware of the meaning of the triple nexus and its relationship to improved living conditions. A look at the allocation of resources shows a commitment to balancing immediate aid, long-term development and peace-building regarding responses to displacement. In particular, there has been a significant reduction in conflict tensions in areas where active triple nexus programmes focus on the peace silo. This underlines the positive correlation between peace efforts and the response to displacement.
5. CONCLUSION
To conclude, the triple nexus emerges as a beacon of hope in the face of Mali’s conflict and forced displacement crisis. It bridges the traditional divide between relief and development, empowers local communities in the decision-making process, and promotes peacebuilding as an integral component of humanitarian and development efforts. As Mali’s experience resonates beyond its borders, it becomes clear that the triple nexus is not merely an academic concept but a moral imperative, a compass that guides us toward a future where forced displacement is met with compassion, resilience, and sustainable solutions.

Congratulations on the work and the approach, it is very important to focus on humanitarian efforts. We cannot help but think that we are a global society where compassion and empathy must be central emotions for development.

Many thanks for message, Susana. I totally agree with you and the importance to focus on humanitarian efforts. The 2030 Agenda and the 17 SDGs are very related to humanitarian response and sustainable development.
Best regards.
